Long-standing cooperation
Topsoe Fuel Cell has carried out research and development on SOFC in a consortium with Risoe DTU for more than 20 years.
The experience and competencies cover all critical SOFC research and development disciplines ranging from materials, cells and stacks through electrochemistry, mechanics and manufacturing technology to modeling and testing.
Based on fundamental experience in material science, manufacturing processes and product design, the consortium continuously strengthens the technology and uncovers novel high performance solutions.
The cooperation is founded on a mutal collaboration agreement entailing that Topsoe Fuel Cell has exclusive rights to all IP related inventions regarding SOFC.
Our current focus
Currently the research and development consortium of Topsoe Fuel Cell and Risoe DTU focuses on:
- development of improved SOFC electrodes with improved electrochemical performance at intermediate operation temperatures
- test of new materials for anodes, cathodes and electrolytes
- test of different interconnect materials, coatings and seals
Improving production
With new materials and components developed at Topsoe Fuel Cell and Risoe DTU we achieve:
- lower production cost
- shortened production times
- improved quality and performance
A special research and development effort is devoted to the development of cells with metal support for improved mechanical strength and robustness. Some benefits of metal-supported cells leading to improved performance are: reliability, robust sealing and higher electrical and thermal conductivity.
