The value of a fuel cell system depends on more than the cell and stack technology. Suitability for available fuels, practical use and interface, and effective network for distribution, installation, service and maintenance of the fuel cell system are critical factors as well. In fact, the entire value chain needs to be covered to competitively comply with the requirements of the customers.

Topsoe Fuel Cell core competencies are centred on ceramic processing, catalysts, and catalytic process design. Accordingly, the parts of the value chain where we add value are cell, stack and the catalytic parts of the overall fuel cell system. In order to lift the entire value chain, Topsoe Fuel Cell collaborates with strategic integrators, companies with prior experience in power conversion products, who fit the Topsoe Fuel Cell stack into a complete system.

The SOFC technology is modular in that SOFC stacks can be considered as building blocks. With a high degree of flexibility, stacks can be combined to suit different applications and capacities. The chosen business model holds the possibility for flexibility and adaptation to the energy technologies of the future.
