”A unique contribution to the development of fuel cells throughout an extraordinarily long career” was the motivation as Dr. Haldor Topsøe received the Grove Medal for his contribution to the development of fuel cells.
The ceremony took place at the Grove Symposium in London on 25 September. The Grove Medal is the greatest acknowledgement in the field of fuel cells, and it is a clear acknowledgement of Dr. Topsøe’s visionary research strategy and persistence in the development of fuel cells as alternative energy source.
The Grove Medal is named after Sir William Grove, who is credited as the first to describe the fundamental principles of fuel cells. The Grove Symposium took place at the Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre in London. Bronwyn Northmore, representing the British Minister of Energy and Lars Sjunnesson, Chairman of the Grove Steering Committee, awarded the medal.
Longterm research commitment
Jens Rostrup-Nielsen, director of special products at Topsøe, accepted the medal on behalf of Dr. Topsøe. In his speech, written by Dr. Topsøe personally, Jens Rostrup-Nielsen emphasised the company’s long-term commitment to research and technical know-how as a basis for success.
”The achievements we have reached should be ascribed in part to the research framework Dr. Haldor Topsøe has created, in part to the extraordinary efforts by the team which over time has been involved in the development of fuel cells,” said Jens Rostrup-Nielsen.
Production of fuel cells
The next step in the development of fuel cells is a new production facility in Copenhagen supporting Topsoe Fuel Cell’s efforts to mature the technology and increase volume in order to meet the needs in the coming test- and demonstration phase.
Topsoe Fuel Cell hosts a topping out ceremony at the production facility on 12 October 2007. The ceremony will be attended by Danish Minister for the Environment Ms. Connie Hedegaard.
